The Ataturk Museum in Sisli is a historic house museum devoted to the life of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, first president of the Republic of Turkey, in the Sisli district on the European side of Istanbul, on Halaskargazi Avenue near Sisli Square. It occupies a three-storey house built in 1908, easily picked out among the modern apartment blocks by its brightly coloured, gracefully decorated facade. Mustafa Kemal rented the house after returning from the Syrian front at the end of the First World War and lived here with his mother Zubeyde, his sister Makbule and his adopted son Abdurrahim until 16 May 1919, the day he sailed on the ship Bandirma to Samsun to begin the Turkish War of Independence; the house thus witnessed the months in which that struggle was planned. The Municipality of Istanbul bought it in 1928 and stored some of his personal belongings here, and it opened to visitors as a museum on 15 June 1942 under the name Ataturk Revolution Museum. The museum displays Ataturk's clothes, personal effects and collections, together with historical documents, photographs and paintings from his lifetime, in rooms furnished in the style of the period.
Entry is free; the museum is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 09:00–16:00, closed Thursday and Sunday (per Wikivoyage). The visit takes no more than 45 minutes. It is a few steps from Sisli–Mecidiyekoy metro station and near the Cevahir shopping centre, so it fits easily into a walk around Sisli and Nisantasi. Labels are mainly in Turkish.
