Museum in Istanbul, Turkey
The Istanbul Aviation Museum, also known as the Turkish Air Force Museum (Havacilik Muzesi), is a military aviation museum owned and run by the Turkish Air Force in the Yesilkoy neighbourhood of Bakirkoy district, near the old Ataturk Airport, covering about 65,000 square metres. In its open-air grounds and halls the museum displays a large collection of warplanes, helicopters and weapons used by the Turkish Air Force through its history, from First and Second World War aircraft to Cold War jet fighters such as the F-104, F-5 and F-4 Phantom, along with civil transport aircraft and examples of Turkish aeronautical history going back to the Ottoman era, when one of the world's oldest air arms was founded in 1911, with uniforms, equipment, documents and photographs. The museum suits families, children and aviation enthusiasts, and its position near the Yesilkoy rail line makes it an easy visit for anyone staying in western Istanbul or near the coast.
Open Tuesday to Sunday 09:00–17:00, closed Monday; tickets about 200 TL with a discount for residents (per Wikivoyage, 2026). Most aircraft stand outdoors, so pick a mild day and bring a hat in summer, and allow ninety minutes. Take the Marmaray or M1 metro to Yesilkoy and walk a few minutes. Photography is allowed, and children enjoy getting close to the planes.
