Holland Park is a public park and an exclusive residential area in Kensington on the western edge of central London, within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The park was originally the private garden of Holland House, a Jacobean mansion largely destroyed in the Blitz, whose remains are dotted around the park and hint at its former grandeur. It is made up of distinct sections: a northern part of semi-wild woodland, a centre with the remains of the house and the formal gardens around it in European and Japanese styles, including the tranquil Kyoto Garden with its waterfall and koi pond, and a southern part with football, cricket and tennis facilities, together with the Orangery glasshouse, free-roaming peacocks, an ecology centre near the police station offering information on the park's wildlife and children's activities, and a cafe selling ice cream and hot food. The surrounding Holland Park neighbourhood contains some of the most expensive residential streets in London and the United Kingdom, with tree-lined avenues of large Victorian mansions on Addison Road, Holland Villas Road and Ilchester Place; it is home to the embassies of several countries including Jordan, Lebanon, Azerbaijan, Greece, Russia and Ukraine, and to cultural attractions such as the Design Museum and Leighton House with its Oriental interiors, as well as spas, hotels and restaurants along Holland Park Avenue and Kensington High Street. The park is a popular way to walk from Notting Hill to Kensington High Street, and in summer it stages open-air opera.
According to Wikivoyage (2026) the park is open daily from 7:30 until dusk and entry is free. Do not miss the Kyoto Garden, quietest in the early morning, and look for the peacocks around the Orangery. The park is very family-friendly with a large adventure playground, and the cafe serves light food. The nearest stations are Holland Park (Central line) and High Street Kensington; halal restaurants are plentiful on Kensington High Street and in nearby Shepherd's Bush, where the Umm al-Din mosque is available for prayer.
