Aquarium in Istanbul, Turkey
Sea Life Istanbul, formerly known as TurkuaZoo, is a public aquarium inside the Forum Istanbul shopping centre in the Bayrampaşa district on the European side of the city. It was the first public aquarium in Turkey when it opened and is one of the largest aquariums in Europe; besides being a family attraction it serves as a centre for marine research and conservation. Visitors follow a route through tanks representing different marine habitats, the highlight being a transparent underwater tunnel where sharks, rays and turtles swim overhead, along with tropical fish and coral-reef tanks, a touch pool and feeding shows at set times. Wikivoyage notes that it is small compared with the Istanbul Aquarium in Yeşilköy, that an hour is plenty, and that its combination tickets with Madame Tussauds and Legoland show that families and children are its main audience. Its location inside the mall makes it a convenient choice for a rainy or very hot day with children, with restaurants and shops on hand.
According to Wikivoyage (2026) it is open daily 10:00–20:00; an adult ticket bought online costs 518 TL and walk-up prices are higher, so book ahead on the official website and consider the combination ticket with Legoland if you have children. Allow one to one and a half hours, and come on a weekday morning to avoid crowds. Take the M1 metro to Kocatepe station and walk to Forum Istanbul. The mall has many restaurants and a prayer room.
