The Federal Territory Mosque (Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan) is one of the largest and most beautiful mosques in Kuala Lumpur, located in the Segambut district north-west of the city centre near the MATRADE complex and the Federal Government Complex off Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim (formerly Jalan Duta). Opened in 2000, its design was partly inspired by the Sultan Ahmed (Blue) Mosque in Istanbul, blending Ottoman and Malay architecture in a great blue dome ringed by smaller domes and slender minarets, set amid extensive gardens and pools that reflect its facades. The mosque has a spacious prayer hall for thousands of worshippers, an inner courtyard and halls for lectures and events, and is one of the mosques that organise visits for non-Muslim tourists to learn about Islam; prayer times are prominently displayed on its official website, which is in Malay only. Wikivoyage notes that the mosque receives visitors outside prayer times, but that arrangements for non-Muslims are not clear on the website and advises calling ahead. Away from the bustle of downtown, the mosque offers Muslim visitors a tranquil prayer experience in one of Malaysia's grandest modern mosques.
The mosque is open for the five daily prayers and Friday prayer; non-Muslims wishing to see the interior outside prayer times are advised by Wikivoyage to call ahead. Dress modestly, women should cover their hair and shoes come off inside; robes are usually available for visitors. Late afternoon is loveliest, when the air cools and the domes reflect in the pools. The site is far from the metro, so a taxi or ride-hailing app is easiest (about 15 minutes from the centre), and the visit combines with the nearby Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex or the Perdana Botanical Gardens.
