Masjid al-Taneem — mosque in Saudi Arabia. Located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
Masjid at-Taneem, also called Masjid Aisha, is in the At-Tan'im district north-west of Mecca, about seven to eight kilometres from the Grand Mosque, on the boundary of the Haram on the side of the Hill. Residents of Mecca and those staying within the Haram put on ihram here for Umrah, making it the nearest and most convenient miqat for them. It is famous as the place where Aisha bint Abu Bakr, wife of the Prophet, put on ihram for Umrah after the Farewell Pilgrimage, accompanied by her brother Abd al-Rahman, because she had been unable to perform Umrah on arrival; the Prophet allowed her to go out to Tan'im for it, as reported in Sahih Muslim. Some accounts say the name comes from two hills on either side of the spot. Today it is a large complex of about six thousand square metres with domes and two minarets, and extensive facilities for bathing, ablution and changing that serve thousands of Umrah pilgrims every day, especially in Ramadan.
Mecca is open to Muslims only. If you are entering ihram here for Umrah, bring your ihram clothes, bathe and make ablution in the facilities, then pray two rak'ahs. It is busiest in Ramadan and on Thursday and Friday nights, so go at quieter times. Plenty of buses and taxis run between Tan'im and the Grand Mosque.
