Heritage museum in Muscat, Oman
The Museum of Omani Heritage, also known as the Oman Museum, stands near the Ministry of Information on a small hill in Muscat's Qurum area. It opened on 17 November 1974 as the first museum in the Sultanate, in the early years of Oman's modern renaissance. Its displays combined historical, archaeological and contemporary objects representing Omani heritage, with detailed material on traditional architecture, agriculture and the aflaj, mining, ancient trade routes, wooden boatbuilding, firearms, and Omani arts and crafts. Its hilltop position also gave it fine views. In July 2016 the National Museum of Oman opened in Old Muscat near Al Alam Palace and took over as the country's main museum, with far larger collections and modern galleries. The older museum remains a piece of the history of museums in Oman.
Sources differ on its status: Wikipedia says the National Museum superseded it in 2016, while Wikivoyage still lists morning hours, so check locally before going. For Omani heritage, the National Museum of Oman in Old Muscat is the fuller choice and needs at least two hours.
