Amman, Jordan
The Royal Automobile Museum is an automobile museum in Amman, Jordan. It is the first public automotive museum in the Arab region.
The Royal Automobile Museum stands in Al Hussein Public Parks on Medical City Street in Amman and is the first public automotive museum in the Arab region. It displays the vehicles of the Jordanian royal family from the founding of the Emirate of Transjordan more than a century ago to the present, and through them tells the story of the Jordanian state and its kings. The collection ranges from the classic cars and motorcycles used by King Abdullah I, King Talal and King Hussein to modern sports cars, with photographs and documents placing each vehicle in the historical moment it belongs to, from receiving heads of state to royal journeys. One of its best-known exhibits is the rover from the film The Martian, which was shot in Wadi Rum. The museum suits families, children and car enthusiasts, and its setting inside Al Hussein Parks allows a visit to be combined with a stroll in the gardens and the neighbouring Children's Museum.
Check opening hours and admission before you go. Allow an hour to ninety minutes, and try the audio guide if available. The museum is air-conditioned and accessible for children and wheelchair users, and the surrounding Al Hussein Parks are good for families, with lawns, a walking track and the Children's Museum. A taxi is easier than public transport.
