Multi-purpose indoor arena located on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi
Etihad Arena is a multi-purpose indoor arena on the Yas Bay waterfront of Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. Designed by HOK, it holds about 18,000 people, one of the largest indoor venues in the region. Known as Yas Bay Arena during construction, it took its name when Etihad Airways bought the naming rights in 2020, and its design won the 2018 MENA Green Building Award for sustainable building design. It was due to open in March 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic pushed its first events to January 2021. Since then it has staged Abu Dhabi's biggest nights: concerts by Arab and international stars, comedy, theatre and film shows, and major sporting events, including UFC mixed martial arts fights during the promotion's events on Yas Island. It looks onto the Yas Bay promenade of restaurants and cafés, so the evening before or after a show is part of the experience.
You can only visit for an event, so check the programme on its website and book tickets ahead. Leave time for a stroll along the Yas Bay waterfront before the show. Parking fills on big nights, so allow for the drive from central Abu Dhabi, about half an hour.
