Golf course in Doha, Qatar
Doha Golf Club, in Al Egla just north of West Bay, is an 18-hole, 7,374-yard, par-72 championship course designed by Peter Harradine and one of the first grass golf courses in the Middle East. It hosts the Qatar Masters, a stop on the international professional tour. The course was designed to contrast sharply with the surrounding desert: eight carefully placed lakes, 65 giant cacti brought from the Arizona desert, more than ten thousand trees and shrubs, limestone rock formations and long, lush fairways. The club is open to non-members and, besides the main course, has a floodlit nine-hole academy course, the Qatar Golf Academy for beginners and children, and a clubhouse with restaurants and a golf shop.
It is open to the public and welcomes non-members, so book a tee time ahead. The floodlit academy course is good for beginners and for evening play away from the heat. The best season is November to March. Non-member green fees are fairly high, so check them on the club's website.
