Museum in Cairo, Egypt
The National Police Museum is a small museum inside the Citadel of Salah al-Din in Cairo, next to the Military Museum in the northern part of the fortress near the site of the old prison. It traces the history of Egypt's security services from ancient times to the present, with collections that include the equipment once used in police stations and the Ottoman-era karakols (police posts), police uniforms through the ages, weapons and decorations. Among its best-known exhibits are photographs and documents of famous officers and of Egypt's most notorious criminals, including the sisters Raya and Sakina and al-Khutt, together with rooms devoted to political assassinations and celebrated crimes, which make it a curious and entertaining stop on a Citadel tour. In front of the museum a terrace offers one of the finest views over Historic Cairo and its minarets, reaching the Pyramids on clear days.
According to Wikivoyage (2026) the museum is open daily 9AM to 4:30PM and is included in the general Citadel ticket. Allow about 30 minutes, and do not miss the terrace in front of it for photographs of Cairo. It lies in the northern enclosure away from the Muhammad Ali Mosque, so pair it with the Military Museum and the Suleiman Pasha Mosque. Go in the morning before the heat and wear comfortable shoes for the stone paths.
