Villaggio Mall is a shopping centre in the Aspire Zone in west Doha, on Al Waab Street between Hyatt Plaza and Sports City. It was built with the Aspire Zone for the 2006 Asian Games, connects directly with the Aspire Tower hotel, and has a Doha Metro station nearby. It has more than two hundred shops from international brands plus a large supermarket, and an interior themed on an Italian town: colourful Venetian-style house fronts, a ceiling painted as a blue sky with clouds, and a 150-metre indoor canal with gondola rides. Inside is the Gondolania indoor theme park, with the Gondolania Ice Rink, Qatar's only Olympic-size rink and home of the Qatar Ice Hockey League, plus a bowling centre and a small roller coaster, a multi-screen cinema with IMAX and a large food court. The mall reopened after a fire in May 2012 under strict safety standards and has since expanded.
It is a comfortable, air-conditioned escape from summer heat and good for families thanks to the gondolas, ice rink and rides. Thursdays and Fridays are busy; weekdays are calmer. Pair it with Aspire Park next door in the evening. Activities are paid separately, so check prices at the counters.
