The Antalya Museum, or Antalya Archaeological Museum, is one of the largest and most important museums in Turkey, in the Konyaalti area on the coastal road west of the old town. It has 13 exhibition halls and an open-air gallery over 7,000 square metres, displaying about 5,000 objects, with a further 25,000 to 30,000 artefacts in storage. It won the European Council Special Prize in 1988. The museum tells the history of the Mediterranean coast and the Pamphylia region of Anatolia from the Stone Age to the Ottoman era: prehistoric finds from the Karain Cave, the famous halls of Roman statuary brought from the ancient city of Perge, with gods and emperors, carved marble sarcophagi, mosaics, coins, a hall of icons and an ethnography section of costumes, carpets and Ottoman objects, with a garden for the larger pieces. Important notice: the museum closed in July 2025 for the demolition and rebuilding of its building, with the collection moved to temporary storage on site, so it cannot be visited until it reopens.
The museum has been closed since July 2025 for rebuilding, so check the reopening date before planning. Its former hours were April to September daily 08:30–20:00 and October to March Tuesday to Sunday 08:30–18:00, with a 340 TL ticket (per Wikivoyage). When it reopens, allow two hours, start with the Perge sculpture halls and combine it with a trip to the ruins of Perge itself for context. Reach it by the coastal tram (Muze stop).
