Düden Waterfalls — group of waterfalls in the province of Antalya, Turkey. Located in Antalya, Turkey.
The Duden Waterfalls are a group of falls on the Duden River in Antalya province, among the city's most famous and most visited natural sights. There are two: the Upper Duden Falls, about 12 kilometres north-east of central Antalya, and the Lower Duden Falls, where the river ends by plunging off a rocky cliff straight into the Mediterranean. The upper falls sit in a shady green park with paths, benches and small restaurants, and a natural cave behind the curtain of water lets you see the fall from inside. The lower falls are viewed in the Lara district from a clifftop park where the water drops some 40 metres into the sea, a majestic sight, and boat trips from the old harbour show them from the water. The river rises in the Kirkgoz area and part of its course disappears underground before resurfacing, which gives the falls their name: duden is Turkish for a sinkhole or underground channel. Both sites are among the best places for a quiet family outing away from the beach.
Visit the upper falls in the morning when the park is quiet and the spray refreshing, and wear non-slip shoes to go down into the cave behind the water. The lower falls are loveliest at sunset from the Lara park or from a boat trip leaving the old harbour. Reach them by local bus or taxi from the centre; the upper park has simple fish and grill restaurants and picnic spots. Check for a small entry fee to the upper park at the gate.
