Medina, Saudi Arabia
The Al-Ijabah Mosque, also known as Bani Muawiyah Mosque, or as Al-Mubahalah Mosque, is a mosque in Medina, Saudi Arabia. The mosque was built during the time of the Islamic prophet Muhammad on a land owned by Muawiyah bin Malik bin 'Auf of the tribe of As-Sus.
The Al-Ijabah Mosque in Medina, also known as the Bani Muawiyah Mosque or Al-Mubahalah Mosque, was built in the Prophet Muhammad's lifetime on land belonging to Bani Muawiyah bin Malik bin Auf of the Aws, whose mosque it was. It lies about 385 metres north of Al-Baqi cemetery on As-Sittin Street, only about 580 metres from the expanded Prophet's Mosque, on low hills that once held the village of Bani Muawiyah. Its name, the Mosque of the Answer, comes from a hadith in Sahih Muslim: returning one day from Al-Aliyah, the Prophet entered the mosque of Bani Muawiyah, prayed two rak'ahs with his companions and supplicated at length, then told them he had asked his Lord for three things and been granted two: that his community would not be destroyed by famine, nor by drowning, while the third, that they would not fight among themselves, was withheld. The mosque has been renovated many times, most recently in the Saudi era as an elegant white building with a minaret, and visitors to Medina often pray here because it is so close to the Prophet's Mosque.
It is a place of worship for Muslims: dress modestly and visit outside busy times; women use their own prayer area. It is about ten minutes' walk from the Prophet's Mosque along As-Sittin Street, north of Al-Baqi. Avoid midday in summer, and combine it with a visit to Al-Baqi.
