Ataturk's House Museum is a national museum in Antalya dedicated to the visits of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder of the Turkish Republic, to the city. It occupies a two-storey house built in the early twentieth century where Ataturk stayed during his two visits, from 6 to 10 March 1930 and 18 to 19 February 1935, in the city centre near Cumhuriyet Square and Karaalioglu Park, a short walk from Kaleici. The ground floor displays newspapers, photographs and documents relating to the two visits; the upper floor has two study rooms and a bedroom furnished as they were, together with a section showing a collection of banknotes, coins, commemorative coins and postage stamps issued since the proclamation of the Republic. The most important part of the museum is the room of Ataturk's personal belongings, brought from Anitkabir, his mausoleum in the capital Ankara. It is a short, quiet visit for anyone interested in modern Turkish history and rounds off a walk through central Antalya.
The visit takes no more than half an hour, and the museum is in the heart of the city, so it fits easily into a walk around Cumhuriyet Square, Kaleici and Karaalioglu Park. Ask about opening hours and the entry fee at the door, as they follow the national museums and change with the season. Labels are mainly in Turkish, so a guide or translation app helps.
