Shopping mall in Dubai, United Arab Emirates
BurJuman is one of the oldest shopping malls in Dubai, opened in 1991 in the Mankhool area of Bur Dubai on Khalid bin al-Waleed Road, developed and owned by the Al Ghurair Group. The landmark complex has more than 2.8 million square feet of mixed-use space including the mall, a business tower, hotel suites and residences; the mall itself exceeds 800,000 square feet on four floors with over 300 stores. BurJuman won two MAXI Merit awards from the International Council of Shopping Centers in 2003 and "Mall of the Year" at the first Retail Middle East Awards in 2006. Though it has lost ground to the newer mega-malls, it remains one of the largest of Dubai's older centres, with a calmer atmosphere and a central position in Bur Dubai close to the Creek and the historic quarters. It is served directly by BurJuman metro station, where the Red and Green lines meet, which makes it an easy place to rest, shop and eat while exploring old Dubai.
Open Saturday to Wednesday 10:00–22:00 and Thursday to Friday 10:00–23:00 (per Wikivoyage). The metro is easier than driving: BurJuman station is on both the Red and Green lines. It is a convenient air-conditioned break and a quick meal between the Al Fahidi quarter and the old souks, with a prayer room and plenty of halal restaurants. Far quieter than the Dubai Mall, so it suits families who want relaxed shopping.
