Dubai Safari Park is an eco-friendly wildlife park in Al Warqa 5 on the Hatta Road, opposite Dragon Mart, powered mainly by solar energy. It replaced the old Dubai Zoo on that institution's fiftieth anniversary, closed for improvements in May 2018 and reopened in October 2020. It was built at a cost of about AED 1 billion over roughly 12.8 million square metres, with capacity for around 10,000 visitors a day. The park holds some 3,000 animals of more than 250 species from the Middle East, Asia and Africa, including 78 mammal species, among them ten carnivores and seventeen primates, fifty kinds of reptile and 111 kinds of bird, as well as amphibians and invertebrates, kept in open enclosures that imitate their natural habitats with lakes, waterfalls and artificial rock. It is divided into four zones, Explorer Village, African Village, Arabian Desert Safari and Asian Village, with a bus safari ride among the large animals such as lions, elephants and giraffes. The park aims to raise awareness of wildlife welfare and conservation through research and best practice, and it is one of Dubai's best destinations for families and children in the cooler season.
