Building complex in Dubai
The Emirates Towers are a pair of twin skyscrapers on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, comprising the Emirates Office Tower and the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel, joined by a two-storey, 9,000-square-metre retail complex known as The Boulevard. The office tower rises 354.6 metres to its tip and the hotel tower 241.4 metres of occupied height; for a time they were the tallest buildings in Dubai, and the taller one ranks 51st among the world's tallest. The complex is owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and is one of the symbols of modern Dubai. The office tower was built by the construction arm of the Al Ghurair group and the hotel tower by Ssangyong and Six Construct; the hotel has 400 rooms. A curiosity of the design is that the towers have a similar number of floors despite the difference in height, 56 for the offices and 54 for the hotel, because the office floors are taller. The complex sits in more than 570,000 square metres of gardens with lakes, waterfalls and public seating, parking for about 1,500 cars, and peacocks from the neighbouring Zabeel Palace that wander the grounds. With their triangular glass facades and sloping crowns, the towers are among the most recognisable images of the Sheikh Zayed Road skyline, and The Boulevard holds upmarket shops, restaurants and cafes used by those who work in the area.
The towers are an office building and a hotel, so a visit means browsing The Boulevard, dining in its restaurants or simply photographing them from the gardens; there is no public observation deck. Emirates Towers metro station on the Red Line is directly outside. The best photographs are from the opposite side of Sheikh Zayed Road at sunset or after dark. Restaurants in The Boulevard offer halal options, and the area is close to the World Trade Centre and the DIFC.
