A white sand beach in Dubai
Jumeirah Beach is Dubai's most famous and busiest beach, a white-sand strand named after the Jumeirah district on the Gulf coast. It runs along the shore south of the city's historic quarter as far as the Palm Jumeirah, ending between the southern end of the Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR), next to Dubai Marina, and the port facilities of Jebel Ali. The districts beside it are Jumeirah 1, 2 and 3, Umm Suqeim and Al Sufouh, a string of neighbourhoods sometimes called simply the Jumeirah Beach Road area. The beachfront is lined with large hotels, resorts and developments, most famously the Burj Al Arab on its island, the Wild Wadi Waterpark, the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and the traditional-style Madinat Jumeirah, as well as the public Jumeirah Beach Park. Long stretches of the beach are open to everyone free of charge, with soft white sand, calm warm water and the celebrated view of the Burj Al Arab. It is a daily destination for Dubai's residents and visitors for swimming, walking and sport, with a long promenade and public facilities, and the best place to watch the sun set behind the Burj Al Arab.
The public sections are free; early morning or late afternoon until sunset are best, and October to April is the finest season. The beach is mixed, so conservative families may prefer the quieter ends or Dubai's public beaches with ladies-only days. Toilets, showers, parking, nearby prayer rooms and restaurants on Jumeirah Road are available. Watch the safety flags and lifeguards, and bring sunscreen and water. Combine it with the nearby Jumeirah Mosque and Madinat Jumeirah.
