Mall of the Emirates is one of the largest and best-known shopping malls in Dubai, in Al Barsha at Interchange 4 on Sheikh Zayed Road, developed and owned by the Majid Al Futtaim Group. It opened in November 2005 as the largest mall in the Middle East and outside North America, a title it held until the Dubai Mall opened in 2008; that same year it was named the World's Leading New Shopping Mall at the World Travel Awards in London, and in 2017 Forbes listed it among the top five malls in Dubai. It has a gross leasable area of about 255,000 square metres on several levels, with more than 630 shops including 80 luxury stores and 250 flagship stores, over 100 restaurants and cafes, 7,900 parking spaces, a large Carrefour hypermarket and Arabian souvenir shops upstairs. Its most famous attraction is Ski Dubai, the Middle East's first indoor ski resort and snow park, alongside Magic Planet, one of the largest indoor family entertainment centres in Dubai, the 500-seat Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre and a multiplex cinema, which make it a full-day family destination rather than just a place to shop.
