Shopping centre in Jumeirah, Dubai
Mercato Shopping Mall is a small, distinctive mall in the Jumeirah area of Dubai, near Town Centre on Jumeirah Road, opened in 2002 and named after the Italian word for "market". It was designed to look like a Mediterranean town of the Italian Renaissance, with colourful facades, paved piazzas, balconies and a large glass roof that lets in natural light; it is the only Renaissance-themed mall in the Middle East and hosts seasonal fairs and festivals inspired by Italy, France and Spain. The mall has a total area of about 59,900 square metres and a gross leasable area of 22,900 square metres, with more than 140 shops from international fashion brands to local stores, a large Spinneys supermarket, a seven-screen cinema, cafes and restaurants, one with a balcony overlooking the sea, and a children's play area. Mercato is a convenient option for Jumeirah residents and for visitors to the nearby beach, far smaller and calmer than Dubai's giant malls, and its unusual architecture makes it a pleasant spot for photographs and an air-conditioned break between Jumeirah Mosque and the beach.
Open daily 10:00–22:00 (per Wikivoyage). Come by taxi or the Jumeirah Road bus, as there is no nearby metro station; parking is available. It is good for a meal or coffee after the beach or after visiting Jumeirah Mosque a short way along the road, with a prayer room and halal food options. A visit needs no more than an hour or two.
