Souk Madinat Jumeirah is a covered market in traditional Arabian style at the heart of Madinat Jumeirah, the largest resort in Dubai, spread over more than 40 hectares of gardens and waterways on Jumeirah beach beside the Burj Al Arab. The whole resort is designed to resemble a traditional Arabian town, with wind towers, timber galleries and geometric ornament, and comprises three boutique hotels (Jumeirah Al Qasr, Jumeirah Mina A'Salam and Jumeirah Al Naseem) and Dar Al Masyaf, a courtyard of 29 summer houses. The souk has around 75 shops selling gifts, crafts, perfumes, jewellery and art, together with many restaurants and cafes and the Madinat Theatre, in air-conditioned covered lanes that evoke the old souks with modern comfort. The atmosphere is calmer and more upmarket than the general malls, and prices are higher since it is aimed mainly at tourists. The best part is strolling along the waterways, where abras glide between the hotels, and the terrace views of the Burj Al Arab, especially at sunset and in the evening when the complex is lit; it is one of the most photographed spots in Dubai.
The souk is open 10:00–23:00 and entry is free. Come before sunset for photographs and stay for dinner by the canal; book the restaurants facing the Burj Al Arab in advance, and many serve halal food. Shop prices are tourist-level, so compare before buying. There is a prayer room in the resort; come by taxi (no metro nearby) and parking is available. Combine it with the neighbouring public Jumeirah beach and Wild Wadi.
